Vosakou Monastery

Vosakou Monastery is an Orthodox monastery of a fortress character, dedicated to the Holy Cross, near Doxaros Rethymno, built between the peaks Κουτσοτρούλης, Sofiani and Koufotos of Mount Kouloukona. The monastery operated from the Venetian times, while during the Ottoman occupation it treated Cretan fighters. Despite the successive disasters, today it has been fully restored, even maintaining a museum with exhibits from its long history.
